As a committed and reliable partner of the City of Debrecen, respecting the local traditions, BMW Group Plant Debrecen is preparing for this year’s Flower Carnival with its own parade float and a “career island.”
Building the future in Debrecen, the team of BMW Group Plant Debrecen is committed to being a part of all traditional events that constitute an integral part of the city’s identity, always striving to present the values the company stands for and the opportunities it offers. Most recently, it was at Campus Festival where the people of Debrecen had an opportunity to encounter BMW’s team at an impressive stage built with sustainability in mind and at a special booth where they could also see, for the first time in Hungary, the BMW i Vision Circular, which is a vision car foreshadowing the company’s compact model range for 2040 and is based on the principles of the circular economy.
Held on 20 August and the days leading up to it, the Debrecen Flower Carnival is one of Hungary’s largest cultural events with a history of over half a century, where a host of exciting programmes all around the city await visitors. At the festival, which is unique in Europe, the local branch of the BMW Group, currently building a plant in the city, will also take part in a special way: BMW Group Plant Debrecen is preparing for the festival parade with a flower float designed with sustainability in mind and with the premium approach that is typical of the brand, and they are also setting up a career island on Dósa nádor Square in the city centre.
The float of BMW Group Plant Debrecen will have a markedly modern design, not only providing an aesthetic experience, but also bringing people together and inspiring them. Interested visitors will also be allowed to climb on top of the float and take photos from there. Emphasising sustainability and environmental awareness, the float was created with mostly living plants, using more than one thousand dwarf hortensia shrubs. After the festival, the hortensias will be planted in Debrecen’s educational and social institutions and on the area of the factory, since the company feels it is part of its mission to call attention to sustainable thinking. They believe that this is the future, and raising awareness cannot be started early enough.
The unique flower float will make its debut to the public at the parade held on 20 August and will also be on display on Dósa nádor Square in the centre of Debrecen. The company, in cooperation with the Vocational Training Centre of Debrecen (DSzC) and the University of Debrecen, is setting up a BMW iFACTORY career island on Dósa nádor Square, where current and prospective associates can learn about the career opportunities offered by the maker of the NEUE KLASSE, BMW’s next- generation models, which will be available from 2025. Visitors will also be able to gain an insight into the joint training programme of BMW Group Plant Debrecen and DSzC, to be launched in September this year.
The BMW Group is building a comprehensive vehicle factory in Debrecen with a press shop, body work, paint shop, vehicle assembly, as well as a unique battery module plant, which will allow the in-house assembly of the battery cells necessary for the electric drive. Located on an area of more than 400 hectares in the north-western part of Debrecen, the plant will be the first unit within the Group to be developed entirely along the iFACTORY concept from the initial design phase, in the spirit of lean, green and digital manufacturing. BMW Group Plant Debrecen will start production in 2025 with more than 1,500 employees, and that will be the year also when the first model of the all-electric NEUE KLASSE, which will debut in Debrecen, will roll off the production line.
