At one of Hungary’s biggest pop music and cultural events, BMW Group Plant Debrecen will have its own stage with innovative and environmentally friendly solutions in line with the objectives of the plant under construction, also presenting for the first time in Hungary the BMW Group’s vision car promoting the principles of the circular economy and offering a glimpse into the 2040s, and will await festivalgoers at its premium booth on Job Street as well.
In its 15-year history, Campus Festival, which attracted more than 110,000 visitors in 2022, has become the largest festival in the region and one of the most important in the country, and like in the previous year, it will enjoy the support of BMW Group Plant Debrecen. The BMW Group is committed to making its operations worldwide an integral part of their home cities and to supporting initiatives that are important to local communities, so it was natural for the BMW Debrecen Plant’s team to appear at Campus Festival as well. The event, which will take place at Nagyerdei Stadium between 19 and 23 July, will feature the best performers of the Hungarian pop music scene, supplemented by such stars such as France’s ZAZ, Estonia’s TOMM¥ €A$H and Austria’s Parov Stelar. The colourful programme is made even more attractive by BMW Group Plant Debrecen’s special activities focusing on the future.
The BMW Group’s plant built in Debrecen will use the BMW iFACTORY manufacturing strategy, which can be described in terms of the adjectives lean, green and digital, and these pillars will define all the activities of BMW Group Plant Debrecen also outside of production. The BMW iFACTORY stage, awaiting festivalgoers with pop music programmes, will feature future-oriented technological solutions and visual cues referring to circularity as well. The solar panels installed on the stage will generate electricity to power the premium sound and lighting technology – just as the solar farm extending on 30 hectares around the BMW plant will provide a significant part of the electricity needed for vehicle manufacturing, which will start in 2025. In addition, the visual appearance of the BMW iFACTORY stage is created largely from recycled materials, which will be an integral part of the stage’s visual and lighting design putting the concept of circularity in the forefront.
The BMW team will also bring one of the most special “guests” of the star-studded Campus Festival to Debrecen: the BMW i Vision Circular, a vision car that anticipates the Bavarian premium manufacturer's compact model range for 2040, will be on display for the first time in Hungary at Nagyerdei Stadium. The four-seater, fully electric-powered vehicle offers a generous passenger compartment with a length of around four metres, and is an excellent illustration of the BMW Group’s comprehensive, all-encompassing approach focusing on long-term sustainable personal mobility. The vision car has been consistently developed by the engineers on the basis of the principles of the circular economy, as it is made 100 percent from recycled materials and is also 100 percent recyclable. As such, the vision car incorporates a range of innovative ideas that combine sustainability with a new, inspiring spark. From a sustainability point of view, the approach behind the development of the NEUE KLASSE generation of models will follow the same thinking as the BMW i Vision Circular vision car, but the latter is not the much-awaited NEUE KLASSE.
The vision car, along with the BMW Group’s new technology flagship, the all-electric, series-production BMW iX, will be on display throughout the festival at the BMW Group Plant Debrecen’s airy booth, and experts of the Bavarian premium manufacturer will be at hand to answers visitors’ questions about the models. The team at BMW Group Plant Debrecen is growing significantly month by month, with a more than fivefold increase in the number of employees since the beginning of the year. The plant under construction currently employs over 500 people and is recruiting for 100 open positions. At the premium booth of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, visitors of Campus Festival can learn about the daily life of the plant’s employees, get answers to their questions about the construction and operation of the plant, participate in presentations and prize draws, and find out about job opportunities from the staff.
The BMW Group is building a comprehensive vehicle factory in Debrecen with a press shop, body work, paint shop, vehicle assembly, as well as a unique battery module plant, which will allow the in-house assembly of the battery cells necessary for the electric drive. According to the plans, BMW Group Plant Debrecen will start production in 2025 with more than 1,500 employees, and that will be the year also when the first model of the all-electric NEUE KLASSE, which will debut in Debrecen, will roll off the production line.
