Employee Mobility at BMW Group: Opening of BIKE4U in Straßkirchen.

+++ Bike-sharing service for BMW Group employees +++ Connection to public transport and infrastructure in Straßkirchen +++

Straßkirchen. The established bike-sharing service BIKE4U from BMW Group is now available in Straßkirchen. Employees can commute by bicycle between the Straßkirchen train station and the interim office spaces at Ohmstraße in Straßkirchen, where more than 50 employees are already working.

Sabrina Kugler, Project Manager for the BMW Group Plant Irlbach-Straßkirchen: “A diverse mobility offering at as many locations as possible is one of the attractive additional benefits of the BMW Group. Therefore, the goal is to provide employees at the new location with good access to public transport even during the construction phase.”
Dr. Christian Hirtreiter, Mayor of Straßkirchen: “The bicycles make using the train even more attractive for BMW Group employees.”

With the specially developed app called ‘Urby’, employees can reserve a bicycle in advance or use it just in time. Urby not only provides access to the BMW Group exclusive sharing bikes but also already combines all mobility offerings of the company at several locations on one platform.

Two stations to start

The bicycles will be regularly checked for functionality and proper location to ensure they can be used and parked correctly at the two stations.

Tobias Danner, Production Specialist for the housing of the high-voltage battery of the sixth generation from the BMW Group, has been using the bike-sharing service from day one: “The BIKE4U offering fits perfectly with my commute. The combination with the subsidized Germany ticket is an attractive alternative for my daily commute from Neufahrn in Lower Bavaria to Straßkirchen.”

In the future, the bike-sharing service – along with other mobility offerings for employees – will also be connected to the new BMW Group assembly plant for high-voltage batteries, located between the two municipalities of Irlbach and Straßkirchen, just under three kilometers from the Straßkirchen train station. After successful ramp-up, a total of 1,600 jobs will be created at the new BMW Group location. Series production of high-voltage batteries is set to start at the end of 2026.

Further information about the new Irlbach-Straßkirchen location can be found on the project website at www.bmwgroup-werke.com/irlbach-strasskirchen. The next opening date for the information container at the construction site is May 9 from 3 PM to 5 PM.
